For young people in the Balkans, staying informed is a real challenge.
Fake news, widely disseminated on social media, influences opinions and reinforces tensions, particularly in the Balkans, where political and historical divisions run deep.
Combating disinformation is not just about checking facts, but also about understanding the intentions and impacts behind them. Balkan Voices supports young people by providing them with tools to analyze information and develop a critical eye.

Our missions
Raise awareness about disinformation
In a context where false information circulates rapidly and influences public debate, Balkan Voices is committed to providing verified, high-quality content. The aim is not only to explain what disinformation is, but also to show how information is produced, what biases are possible, and why it is important to cross-check sources.
Develop critical thinking
Media and information literacy has become a key issue in the digital age. Knowing how to spot misleading information, understanding the mechanisms of manipulation, and developing a critical eye are essential skills for navigating an environment where information flows constantly.
Encourage a responsible approach to information
Disinformation is not just an online problem: it can shape opinions, influence political decisions, and reinforce tensions in society. By providing young people and educators with practical tools, Balkan Voices helps them better understand media issues and adopt a more informed and responsible approach.
Where does Balkan Voices come from?
Balkan Voices began in 2021 as TALMIL, an educational platform dedicated to Media and Information Literacy in the Western Balkans, launched as part of Expressions Balkaniques 1, supported by CFI and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 2025, TALMIL became Balkan Voices, offering a modernized and interactive platform with new tools for young journalists and media professionals. The project is evolving to include fun formats and content tailored to young people and educators, as part of the Expressions Balkaniques 2 and Productions Balkaniques initiatives, supported by the European Union.
This new version of Balkan Voices addresses today’s media literacy challenges, offering a dynamic, interactive space to learn how to analyze information in an engaging and effective way.
CFI is a key French player in international media development. A subsidiary of France Médias Monde and operator of the MEAE, CFI supports media and information professionals in Africa, the Arab world, Europe, and Asia. Its commitment? To support quality information that is accessible to all and to help those who want to better understand the workings of the news.
Whether you are a student, teacher, aspiring journalist, or simply curious to learn more, Balkan Voices is here to support you.
